About
Plain Systems is a personal notebook. I work on infrastructure — mostly Linux hosts, networking and the unglamorous parts of distributed systems — and I write down the things I had to learn the slow way.
The posts here are deliberately short. They are the notes I would want to find when I am debugging something at an inconvenient hour: what the counter means, which tool answers the question fastest, and where the obvious explanation is usually wrong.
What you'll find
- Packet-level debugging and TCP behaviour
- Name resolution, caching and failure modes
- Storage, backups and restore drills
- Operational habits that reduce surprise
